This course equips students with basic linguistic terminology and thenecessary tools to examine the relationship between language and society. Topics covered include linguistic variation (regional, social, situational), language and gender, language and disadvantage/power, multilingualism, language change, pidgin and creole languages.
Prerequisite(s): Registration in Level 1 of the Integrated Business & Humanities Program (IBH Program)  
Antirequisite(s): Not open to students with credit or enrolment in LINGUIST 1ZZ3  or 2S03 .
