LATAM 2A03 - Introduction to Latin American and Latinx Studies 3 unit(s)
This course serves as a broad introduction to the interdisciplinary fields of Latin American Studies and Latinx Studies. We investigate the questions ‘What is Latin America?’ and ‘What is Latinx Studies?’ through a number of lenses, including the languages, literature, cultures, societies, geographies, archaeologies, environmental issues, health care, innovations, histories, identities, migrations and diasporas of Latin America and its peoples. We use these interdisciplinary approaches to examine the intersection between race, ethnicity, identity, and migration. The course will also expose students to active Latin American Studies research by McMaster scholars and Latinx/Latin American scholars. Lectures (three hours); one term
