HISTORY 731 / Violence in the Early Modern World3 unit(s)
V. Aksan
An examination of the sources of violence in the early modern period, largely 1500-1800 with
particular attention to a comparative analysis of eastern and western societies. Themes would
certainly include state generated violence as in slavery, conscription, and the socio-impact of
war, but also ideological, cultural and gendered sources of riots, rebellions and individual
abuse.
