This course explores developments in the Caribbean in the 20th century, concentrating on the significance of race, class and gender. It explores the changing nature of imperial control, particularly the growing power of the U.S. in the region, pan-Africanism, nationalism, and socialism, and looks at the development of independence movements in the latter half of the century. Three hours (lectures and discussion); one term Prerequisite(s): Registration in Level II or above
