Introduction to masonry including properties and manufacture of materials, behaviour of masonry assemblages, design of plain and reinforced walls, columns and beams, design to avoid moisture problems. The course also deals with the overall design of masonry systems including planning and selection of suitable layouts and consideration of construction requirements. The course also covers specialized topics such as masonry systems response to extreme loading.
