HISTORY 775 / The Canadian Left in the Twentieth Century

3 unit(s)

How have leftists-people committed to a more egalitarian and rational social order-fared in a Canada committed since the 1840s to liberal principles and a business civilization? Adopting a wide-ranging perspective, this courses focuses on the legacies of social democracy and communism and the impact of the post-1945 Cold War. It also looks at the rebels and revolutionaries of the 1960s and the various movements - radical feminism, gay liberation, anti-racism, Canadian and Quebec nationalism, and environmentalism - that sought to change Canada as part of a worldwide wave of protest and radicalism.
