LABRST 730 / Work and Democracy in the Global Society 3 unit(s)
Capital, ideas, people and commodities are crossing borders at unprecedented rates in an era of increased global connections. These dynamics of globalization have reshaped contemporary conditions, including profoundly altering the organization of work. In this course, students will analyze what work and democracy look like in this new global era. The course concludes by examining key labour responses to globalization, including the activities of transnational labour bodies, new alignments between labour and social movements, and emerging forms of transnational labour solidarity.
