CLPPC 708 / Child Life: Foundations of Play

Prerequisite(s): Enrollment is restricted to Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care students only.

This is a required course for Stream 1 learners, and runs for 14 weeks in the Summer Term. This course examines the meaning and value of play as a child develops. This course will explore and evaluate the therapeutic and developmental benefits of play in multiple contexts, and provide a critical evaluation of relevant research. Directive and non-directive therapeutic play techniques for use in child life clinical practice will be explored. Cultural issues that may influence children’s play experiences will be examined, as well as global policies for children’s right to play. This course is offered online. One real-time online session is also required.
