The principles of conformational analysis of acyclic, cyclic, polycyclic and heterocyclic hydrocarbons and functional groups will be surveyed. General features of conformational, steric and electronic effects in organic reactions will be exemplified through a survey of classic as well as recent examples from the literature. The overall theme of the course is the integration of conformational and stereoelectronic phenomena in predicting the outcome of complex organic reactions.
