CIV ENG 713 / Finite Element Analysis in Geomechanics and Transient Flow: Theory and Application

3 unit(s)

The course covers the finite element method for geological materials coupled with the transient flow focusing on its theoretical and computational aspects. The fundamental principles of geomechanics for two-phase porous media are highly applicable to various fields in engineering and science including but not limited to biomechanics, geotechnical engineering, material science, and geosciences. In particular, the coupled solid deformation, fluid flow, and mass exchanges are encountered in energy recovery (climate change / hydraulic fracture), liquefaction, thawing and freezing soil, and earth structures.
