BUSINESS C755 / Analytics and Decision Making in Healthcare

3 unit(s)

Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in HSM stream of MBA, Global Health, eHealth, Public Health, or permission of the instructor.

This course provides the students with an introduction to essential methods for analyzing complex healthcare decisions at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels. Using examples from the Global North and Global South, various methods spanning data (when data is available) and model-driven (in the absence of data) will be introduced using the commonly-used analytical tools in Excel and R. Different methods of predictive analytics (such as classification and regression), simulation, decision trees, and basic linear programming will be used to analyze healthcare decisions both under certainty and uncertainty. These tools together will present methods for incorporating the various, and sometimes conflicting, aspects such as personal, social, political, economic and global criteria when making health-related decisions.
