ARTHIST 4AP3 - Contemporary Art Practices of Intervention, Performance and Conceptual Art 3 unit(s)
Students will explore and develop and understanding of how 20th century provocations of Dadaism, Fluxus, and Feminist art impact and resonate with contemporary art practices in the 21st century. The course will also examine how the canon of Euro-Western art erased and de-valued work by Indigenous, Black, and Artists of Colour. Departing from a chronological approach to studying art history, the course is structured around issues and/or concepts that dynamically intersect historical and contemporary practices. The course is designed as an interdisciplinary arts-based seminar course, involving readings, lectures, and class discussions, but also field trips,
arts-based activities, and collaborative experiential learning.
Three hours; one term
Cross-list(s): ART 4AP3 , IARTS 4AP3
