SCAR 3SM3 - Secular Modernity? 3 unit(s)
Modernity, including modern politics and modern thought, has long been characterized as secular, and scholars speak of a ‘return of religion’ in our times. But was modernity ever secular? Through history, theory, ideology, and art, we will recover a more complicated relationship between religion and modernity than usually imagined. Lectures, discussion (three hours); one term Prerequisite(s): Registration in Level II or above
