ANTHROP 2C03 - Archaeology of Environmental Crisis and Response

The influence of natural (drought, flood, volcanic eruption, earthquakes, and tsunamis) and human-induced (deforestation, soil exhaustion) environmental crises on long term culture histories. Examples include ancient civilizations (e.g., Egypt, Mesopotamia, Maya) and smaller-scale societies (e.g. Rapa Nui/Easter Island).
Lecture (two hours). tutorial (one hour); one term
Prerequisite(s): Three units of Level I Anthropology and registration in Level II or above in any program.
