This course explores the organization of healthcare work including working conditions, divisions of labour and the role of scientific and emotional labour. It examines the history and present status of healthcare unionization and the role of the state in labour relations including strikes, dispute resolution and the dynamics of essential service designation in shaping healthcare workers’ ability to influence their work lives.
