CMST 2XX3 - Queer Popular Culture

From music and comedy to social media and television, 2STLGBQIA+ people are more visible than ever in popular culture. In this course, we explore how, now and in the past, queer and trans people have shaped popular culture and how popular culture has been a resource for 2STLGBQIA+ survival, community, and joy. We will use diverse case studies and readings to better understand the work of cultural producers and their entertainment industry, social, and political contexts.
