ANTHROP 782 / Diaspora and Difference: Nation, Race, Religion 3 unit(s)
(cross-listed as GLOBALST 782 and RELIG ST 782 )
The question of diaspora unsettles recognized logics of difference. Meanwhile, contemporary articulations of difference are captured by identity categories (nation, race, religion). This seminar develops a critical understanding of such terms while introducing students to global diasporic contexts. Topics to be covered include the problem of methodological nationalism, the weight of history, the work of violence, the politics of memory, governmentality and multiculturalism, and more.
