CLPPC 702 / The Child, Youth and Family in Healthcare

Prerequisite(s): Enrollment is restricted to Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care students only.

This course examines the conceptual nature of family systems, specifically parent-child/youth relations, and sibling relationships. Topics to be addressed include what constitutes ‘family’, the conceptual basis of health and functioning, developmental concepts of illness, psychological preparation for procedures, adolescent transitions in healthcare, and evaluation of evidence for delivering enhanced psychosocial care using a patient and family-centred care model. Interprofessional teamwork and collaboration will be examined. This is a required course for Stream 1 learners, and runs for 14 weeks in the Fall Term. This course is offered online.
