GEOG 721 / Narratives of Science

Using a wide range of popular science media and social media content, this course will introduce students to the main dominant narratives and visual forms used to communicate science in society. The course will teach students how to contextually understand and analyse the communication devices used, and to understand their effect on how science is accessed and understood by diverse communities.

Case studies covered will include the representation of science in science fiction, secular and religious depictions of science, anti-science movements, science and traditional ecological knowledge, and storytelling in science.
