LINGUIST 3AA3 - Linguistics in the Real World 3 unit(s)
The course provides students a contrast to formal linguistics. Incorporating both sociocultural and cognitive perspectives, the course explores how linguistics contributes to real-world issues. Students will learn about the fundamental themes, tools, and participants of applied linguistics through a survey of specialist areas such as: language teaching and education, literacy and language disorders; language variation; language policy and planning; lexicography; multilingualism; translation.
Three hours; one term
Prerequisite(s): LINGUIST 1A03, 1E03, or 1Z03; and LINGUIST 1AA3, 1EE3, or 1ZZ3; and registration in Level II or above
Antirequisite(s): LINGUIST 4AA3
