Research in Biochemistry

Our research encompasses all the major areas of modern biomedical research. Particular strengths include the molecular genetics of stem cells (including human and mouse embryonic stem cells), eukaryotic cell biology, antimicrobial research and structural biology. We have an exceptionally sophisticated equipment base in Canada which includes the first and only high throughput screening laboratory in Canada (http://fhs.mcmaster.ca/cmcb/hts.html) and the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy (http://ccem.mcmaster.ca/index.html). These centralized facilities provide unique avenues for addressing important biomedical questions. Our faculty are supported by more than $16 million in peer-reviewed research grants.
