Centre for Continuing Education

Undergraduate students may enrol in Continuing Education courses and programs to use as credits within their degrees. For details, students are asked to consult their Academic Advisors.

Located at One James North in downtown Hamilton (OJN campus), McMaster Continuing Education offers Certificate and Diploma programs, plus professional development and corporate training programs. Courses and programs are offered in the evenings, on weekends, and online to accommodate undergraduate students and working professionals. For more details, please contact McMaster Continuing Education at extension 24321 or visit www.McMasterCCE.ca.

Courses in Certificates and Diplomas offered through Continuing Education are Senate-approved courses and are eligible for credits in undergraduate degrees. In particular, they have been approved for advanced credit. Information about advanced credit for degree study is provided below and in McMaster University’s Senate Policy on Diplomas and Certificates.

As stated in the McMaster University’s Senate Senate Policy on Diplomas and Certificates, “academic credits can be applied to another credential. Examples include, but are not limited to, transfer of credit from a certificate to a degree or from a degree to a diploma. Normally, credits can be applied to a maximum of two credentials.” Further, “[pending approval by the student’s Faculty office], up to 100% of the academic credit courses completed toward undergraduate diploma and certificate programs may be used for credit toward another credential at the discretion of and in accordance with the normal academic rules specified by academic unit offering the subsequent credential.”

A specific way that undergraduate students can benefit from study through Continuing Education is to use their elective credits within their degree programs to complete a Continuing Education Certificate or Diploma. McMaster’s Continuing Education programs are closely aligned with the requirements of professional associations and can, therefore, assist students in gaining a professional designation and achieving work readiness. Students can graduate with a university degree and a career-focussed diploma. Students interested in the degree plus diploma options should consult their Academic Advisors.
