M.Sc. Degree
The Department of Kinesiology offers a program leading to an M.Sc. degree. The program is primarily research oriented and offers opportunities for focused study in the areas of biomechanics and ergonomics, exercise rehabilitation, exercise and health psychology, exercise physiology, motor control and learning, neuroscience and sociology. One emphasis of the program is research related to the problems encountered by a variety of populations including those with chronic disease or disability. There is the opportunity for collaboration with faculty members in other Departments in the Faculty of Science as well as other Faculties including Engineering, Health Sciences and Rehabilitation.
A candidate for the M.Sc. degree must fulfill the general regulations of the School of Graduate Studies. An honours baccalaureate degree in kinesiology or a related field of study with at least B+ standing (equivalent to a McMaster GPA of 8.5) is generally required for consideration of admission. A candidate for Master’s studies is required to complete, with at least a B minus standing, the following half course: Plus two courses from the following selection (only one may be an independent study course (i.e. KIN 702 or 723):
Electives
In consultation with their advisor, and with the approval of the Department of Kinesiology, the candidate may substitute one of his/her two KIN electives with an elective offered outside the Department of Kinesiology. Additional electives in departments other than the Department of Kinesiology will be determined in consultation with the advisor. It may also be necessary for certain candidates to take additional courses should their advisor and/or thesis supervisory committee members deem it necessary. A thesis is required. KINESIOL 702 cannot be taken more than once. |
