Honours Economics and Mathematics (B.A.)

Admission

Completion of any Level I program and a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0 including an average of at least 5.0 in ECON 1B03  and 1BB3 ; and successful completion of one of MATH 1A03 1LS3  or 1X03  and one of MATH 1AA3 1LT3 , or 1XX3  with a grade of at least C+ (see Note 3 below); and MATH 1B03 For continuation in the program, see Minimum Requirements for Entering and Continuing in a Program Beyond Level I

Notes

  1. Alternate admission requirements:
    1. For students enrolled in Level II or III of BA Economics, admission to Levels II, III and IV of Honours Economics programs requires a minimum GPA of 5.0 and an average of at least 5.0 in ECON 2Z03 , 2ZZ3 , 2H03  and 2HH3 . Students enrolled in Levels II or III of BA Economics cannot gain admission to Honours Economics programs by upgrading ECON 1B03  (or 1BX3) or 1BB3  (or 1BA3).
    2. For students in another program beyond Level I, admission to Levels II, III and IV of Honours Economics programs normally requires a minimum GPA of 5.0 and an average of at least 5.0 in ECON 2Z03 , 2ZZ3 2H03  and 2HH3 . Students cannot gain admission to Honours Economics programs by upgrading ECON 1B03  (or 1BX3) or 1BB3  (or 1BA3). However, if a student enrolled in Level II or above of another program has a minimum GPA of 5.0 and has completed ECON 1B03  and 1BB3  with an average of at least 5.0 on their first attempt, they will be considered admissible.
  2. COMMERCE 2FA3  may be substituted for ECON 2I03  and COMMERCE 2QA3  may be substituted for ECON 2B03 .
  3. Students with prior credit in a statistics course recognized as an alternative to ECON 2B03  can take ECON 3EE3  only if they achieved a grade of at least B+ in an alternative statistics course. See ECON 3EE3  in the Course Listings section of this Calendar for a list of recognized alternative statistics courses.
  4. Neither ECON 2B03 , 3E03  nor 3EE3  can be used to satisfy these required units.
  5. Neither STATS 2D03  nor 2MB3  can be used to satisfy these required units.
  6. MATH 1B03  must be completed by the end of Level II. Completion in Level I is strongly recommended. It is also recommended that students consider completing MATH 1C03  prior the end of Level II.
  7. Students seeking admission to the program should note that MATH 1A03  and 1AA3  were designed for Chemical & Physical Science Gateway students and MATH 1LS3  and 1LT3  were developed for Life Sciences or Earth & Environmental Sciences Gateway students. MATH 1A03  and 1AA3  prepare students for a wide variety of upper year math courses. MATH 1LS3  and 1LT3  prepare students for many (but not all) upper year mathematics courses. As a result, students who take 1LS3  and 1LT3  are permitted to enroll in upper year courses, but some self-study of first year calculus topics (such as series and additional integration topics) may be required.
  8. It is recommended that MATH 1C03  be completed in Level 1.
