Applied AI and Data-Driven Decision-Making, M.Mgmt

The Master of Management in Applied AI and Data-Driven Decision-Making (MAIDM) Program has been designed for early-to-mid career professional with at least four (4) years of work experience who desire to effectively incorporate applied AI and data in business and managerial decision-making processes. Given the background and experience of participants, courses in this program will make use of lectures, case studies and in-class discussions to introduce the relevant concepts, off-the shelf software packages for applied AI and data-analytics techniques, and output interpretation to uncover business value.

This program is delivered over five (5) consecutive academic terms where participants will take two (2) courses each term. To accommodate working professionals, each course will adopt a blended delivery format consisting of three (3) intensive in-person residency sessions combined with synchronous seminars, and asynchronous modules.

This program will educate and prepare leaders who have a basic understanding of applied AI and data-driven decision-making to lead analytics teams, be able to communicate with analysts working with them and with upper management, and effectively manage organizational change.

Admission Requirements/Required Documentation

Admission Criteria
Applicants to the Master of Management in Applied AI and Data-Driven Decision-Making are expected to meet the following requirements/provide the following required documentation:

  • Completed online application accompanied by the application fee ($150 Cdn).Further details can be found at Application Information
  • Degree: Completion of an Honours Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
    • Unofficial transcripts of all postsecondary education completed and in progress. If an offer is extended to the applicant, one of the conditions will be to request the official transcripts to be sent directly from the issuing institutions.
  • GPA: Recommended B average (equivalent to a McMaster 8.0 GPA out of 12) or higher. GPA will be calculated using the two most recent years of undergraduate or graduate study, 20 courses, or the equivalent of 60 academic credits. A combination may be used and is determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • GMAT: Not required. Candidates who fail to meet the above GPA criteria or who wish to strengthen their application may wish to submit a GMAT.
  • Essay: Applicants will be required to write a 500-word essay outlining their reasons for wanting to pursue the MAIDM program and any personal, professional and/or background information they wish to share that would help assess and situate their candidacy.
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency: Required for applicants:
    • Whose previous degree was not completed with the language of instruction of English.
    • Who have been resident in an English-speaking country for less than four years.
    • Who have completed less than three years of full-time post-secondary education with English as the primary language of instruction, excluding ESL courses.
    • Acceptable English Language Proficiency Tests:
      • Academic IELTS (overall score of 6.5 required)
      • TOEFL (overall score of 92 required)
  • Work Experience: Recommended minimum of 4 years post-graduate work experience.
  • Professional resume: applicants are encouraged to utilize DeGroote School of Business template.
  • References: Applicants are encouraged to seek two (2) professional (current or former direct supervisor or manager) references. If this is not possible, two academic references are acceptable. Please note that McMaster University uses the Electronic Referencing System. By entering the email address of your referee through the online application, the system will automatically send an eReference request on your behalf.
  • Interview: Applicants are required to participate in an online interview prior to submission of their application.

Prospective applicants who do not meet the normal admission requirements, should consult the Program Director to discuss how their work experience might be assessed to make up for insufficient standing in their undergraduate degree, you may be considered a non-degree applicant.

Please note: meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

Program Requirements


The program’s curriculum consists of ten (10) non-elective courses offered in a blended learning format. Students are required to engage in online learning activities, in addition to attending three (3) mandatory in-person weekend residencies per term.

Additional Information


All instances of failures in individual courses are reviewed by the Faculty Committee on Graduate Admissions and Study or the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies acting on its behalf. A letter will be sent to the Program Director asking for a recommendation regarding the student. In the absence of a recommendation to allow the student to continue, the student will be required to withdraw. Those allowed to remain in the program must either repeat or replace the failed course. A failing grade in a course remains on the transcript. Students who fail a second course will not normally be allowed to continue in the program. 


Graduate students not registered in the Master of Management in Applied AI and Data-Driven Decision-Making program may only enroll in the Master of Management in Applied AI and Data-Driven Decision-Making courses with the approval of the Program Director. In addition, the students must first receive written permissions from their home faculty and forward such permissions to the Master of Management in Applied AI and Data-Driven Decision-Making program office.
