The Master of Management in AI and Analytics (MMAIA) Program has been designed for early-career professionals and recent graduates with less than four (4) years of work experience. The goal of this program is to educate and prepare graduates with the knowledge, technical skills, and experience to develop careers in different industries that incorporate data management, applied AI and analytics.
The Master of Management in AI and Analytics Program will provide students with experiential training on how state-of-the art quantitative models and analytics methods together with leading software packages and programming languages can be used to organize, process, and analyze data, and interpret results to make informed business decisions.

Admission Requirements/Required Documentation
Applicants to the Master of Management in AI and Analytics are expected to meet the following requirements/provide the following required documentation: - Completed online application accompanied by the application fee ($150 Cdn). Further details can be found at Application Information
- Degree: Completion of an Honours Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Preference for degrees in Engineering, Science, Computer Science, Stats, Math, Business or Economics.
- Minimum of one university-level course in each of the following: mathematics, statistics, and computer programming (expectation is that these courses will have been completed in the last 5 years)
- Students from other backgrounds or without the necessary course prerequisites listed above will be considered if they can provide evidence of comparable skills, experience and/or training as detailed in their personal essay and CVs
- Unofficial transcripts of all postsecondary education completed and in progress. If an offer is extended to the applicant, one of the conditions will be to request the official transcripts to be sent directly from the issuing institutions.
- GPA: Recommended B average (equivalent to a McMaster 8.0 GPA out of 12) or higher. GPA will be calculated using the two most recent years of undergraduate or graduate study, 20 courses, or the equivalent of 60 academic credits. A combination may be used and is determined on a case-by-case basis.
- GMAT of GRE: Not required. Candidates may be encouraged to submit to strengthen their application. Candidates will need to demonstrate evidence of a high level of proficiency in quantitative courses in their application materials.
- Essay: Applicants will be required to write a 500-1000 word essay outlining their reasons for wanting to pursue the MMAIA program and any personal, professional and/or background information they wish to share that would help assess and situate their candidacy.
- Proof of English Language Proficiency:
- Required for applicants:
- Whose previous degree was not completed with the language of instruction of English.
- Who have been resident in an English-speaking country for less than four years.
- Who have completed less than three years of full-time post-secondary education with English as the primary language of instruction, excluding ESL courses.
- Acceptable English Language Proficiency Tests:
- Academic IELTS (overall score of 6.5 required)
- TOEFL (overall score of 92 required)
- Work Experience: Although work experience is an asset, no post-graduate work experience is required. Preference for candidates with 0-4 years of work experience.
- Professional resume: applicants are encouraged to utilize DeGroote School of Business template.
- References: Two (2) references are required. Applicants are encouraged to seek one (1) professional (current or former direct supervisor or manger) and one (1)
- academic reference. If this is not possible, two (2) academic or professional references are acceptable. Please note that McMaster University uses the Electronic Referencing System. By entering the email address of your referee through the online application, the system will automatically send an eReference request on your behalf.
- Interview: Applicants are required to complete an online interview prior to the submission of their application. We also encourage you to carefully review the application instructions, deadlines and required.
- Applicants will receive the Kira interview link after starting their application and completing the Select Program section.
- Applicants may be invited to an additional one-on-one interview with a member of our Career and Professional Development team after the submission of their application.
Prospective applicants who do not meet the normal admission requirements, should consult the Program Director to discuss how their academic or work experience might be assessed to make up for insufficient standing in their undergraduate degree, you may be considered a non-degree applicant. Please note: meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
Program Requirements
The Master of Management in AI and Analytics Program is delivered over sixteen (16) months, including three (3) academic terms, a two (2)-term Industry project, and one (1) mandatory Co-op work-term. In addition to the twelve (12) courses, a career development course (MGMT 110) consisting of lectures and interactive forums is also required. This course is spread over two terms (i.e., Terms 1 and 2). Its goal is to equip students with the necessary professional skills that will be beneficial for their employment search process. The curriculum of the Master of Management in AI and Analytics Program is as follows. Additional Information
This program includes one (1) required term of working internship within curriculum requirements. - To remain in the program, students must be registered in full-time studies during the academic terms throughout the duration of the program and remain in good academic standing.
- To be eligible to register for the work internship term, a student must be designated as full-time status in the academic term that immediately precedes the work term and must be returning to full-time status in the academic term that immediately follows the work term.
- All students must successfully complete MGMT I110 - Co-op Career Course in the first two (2) terms of the program and prior to their work term.
- Approved internships will be provided by the Career and Professional Development team to students participating and any exceptions must receive approval from the Manager of the Career and Professional Development team.
- Start dates for internship work term vary depending on employer needs. Students may not have the opportunity for the same scheduled breaks as other students.
- Students are not permitted to enroll in courses during their work terms.
- Co-op Fees: Student enrolled in the program will be charged co-op term fees while registered in MGMT WT01.
All instances of failures in individual courses are reviewed by the Faculty Committee on Graduate Admissions and Study or the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies acting on its behalf. A letter will be sent to the Program Director asking for a recommendation regarding the student. In the absence of a recommendation to allow the student to continue, the student will be required to withdraw. Those allowed to remain in the program must either repeat or replace the failed course. A failing grade in a course remains on the transcript. Students who fail a second course will not normally be allowed to continue in the program. Graduate students not registered in the Master of Management in AI and Analytics Program may only enroll in the Master of Management in AI and Analytics courses with the approval of the Program Director. In addition, the students must first receive written permissions from their home faculty and forward such permissions to the Master of Management in AI and Analytics Program office.
