Graduate Academic Certificate in Railway Systems and Assurance

Overview

The Graduate Academic Certificate in Railway Systems and Assurance provides systems-level knowledge of railway engineering with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and assurance processes. Learners gain foundational expertise in railway infrastructure and operations, complemented by advanced training in reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS). This certificate prepares participants to address the technical and regulatory challenges of planning, developing, and operating modern rail systems, ensuring alignment with industry safety and performance standards.

Admission Requirements

Entrance requirements are set at the same standard as the Master of Engineering in Systems and Technology graduate program

• Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technology, Sciences, or Software with at least a B average (equivalent to a McMaster 8.0/12 GPA) in the penultimate and final years.
• Recent IELTS or TOEFL scores (within the last 2 years) required for international students. Minimum IELTS score 6.5 overall (minimum requirement 5.5 in reading and writing and 6 in listening and speaking). Minimum TOEFL score is 88. Note that if your medium of instruction was English and this is documented on your transcripts, you do not need to submit an ELP test.

  The Master of Engineering in Systems and Technology will permit students who have completed the Graduate Academic Certificates in Rail Electrification and Signaling, Rail Infrastructure and Operations, and/or Railway Systems and Assurance to stack those courses into the master’s program for advanced standing. Consistent with the Graduate Calendar, the Graduate Certificates must have been completed within five years prior to admission to the MEng in Systems and Technology.
