Program Notes

  1. This is a five-level (year) co-op program which includes two eight-month work terms that must be spent in appropriate chemistry-related placements.
  2. Students must be registered full-time and take a full academic workload as prescribed by Level and by Term.
  3. Students are required to complete SCIENCE 2C00  prior to the Fall Term of Level III. Students are required to complete SCIENCE 3C00  before the first work placement.
  4. In some cases there are Level II and III prerequisites for Level III and IV courses. The prerequisites should be considered when choosing your Level II and III courses.
  5. Students are encouraged to seek academic advising from the Departmental Undergraduate Advisor (email: chemadv@mcmaster.ca).
  6. Certain Level IV courses are offered in alternate years. Students are advised to consider course offerings carefully in planning their course selection for Levels III, IV, and V.
  7. CHEM 2LB3  may be taken in Level II or III. CHEM 2LB3  is a prerequisite for CHEM 3LA3 , which cannot be taken concurrently with CHEM 4RP6 or CHEM 4G12. CHEM 2LB3  should be completed in Level II if students are planning to enrol in research or thesis courses.
  8. Students considering postgraduate studies in Chemistry should note that 18 units of Level IV Chemistry or related subjects are required for consideration for admission at McMaster and most graduate schools in Canada.
  9. CHEM 4G12 A/B  or 4RP6 A/B S  cannot be taken concurrently with CHEM 3LA3  or 3RP3 .
