Admission
Completion of Economics I or Honours Economics I with a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0 including an average of at least 7.0 in ECON 1B03 , 1BB3 , and 1ME3 . For continuation in program, see the section on Minimum Requirements for Entering and Continuing in a Program Beyond Level I. Notes
- Alternate admission requirements:
- For students enrolled in Level II or III of BA Economics, admission to Levels II, III and IV of Honours Economics programs requires a minimum GPA of 5.0 and an average of at least 5.0 in ECON 2Z03 , ECON 2ZZ3 , and two of 2H03, 2HH3, 2Y03 , and 2YY3 . Students enrolled in Levels II or III of BA Economics cannot gain admission to Honours Economics programs by upgrading ECON 1B03 (or 1BX3) or 1BB3 (or 1BA3).
- For students in another program beyond Level I, admission to Levels II, III and IV of Honours Economics programs normally requires a minimum GPA of 5.0 and an average of at least 5.0 in ECON 2Z03 , ECON 2ZZ3 , and two of 2H03, 2HH3, 2Y03 , and 2YY3 . Students cannot gain admission to Honours Economics programs by upgrading ECON 1B03 (or 1BX3) or 1BB3 (or 1BA3). However, if a student enrolled in Level II or above of another program has a minimum GPA of 5.0 and has completed ECON 1B03 and ECON 1BB3 with an average of at least 5.0 on their first attempt, they will be considered admissible.
- COMMERCE 2FA3 may be substituted for ECON 2I03 .
- Students in the Integrated Honours and Master’s in Economics program are expected to take ECON 2B03 . Students with prior credit in a recognized alternative statistics course are exempt from this requirement. Those students can take ECON 3EE3 only if they have achieved a grade of at least B+ in a recognized alternative statistics course. See ECON 2B03 in the Course Listings section of this Calendar for a list of recognized alternative statistics courses.
- Students who have not completed ECON 1ME3 are recommended to complete one of Grade 12 Mathematics of Data Management, STATS 1LL3 , STATS 1L03, or COMMERCE 1DA3 .
Requirements
120 units total (Levels I to IV), of which 48 units may be Level I 12 units
Levels II, III, IV Economics with no more than six units from the following courses: 42 units
- Electives. (Note: The number of units of Economics courses above Level I excluding ECON 2B03 , and 3EE3 must not exceed 60.)
Conditions to transition to the M.A. in Economics
- Students with a B+ (9.0/12.0) average in Level 3 and Level 4 courses relevant to the M.A. in Economics program are granted direct entry into the M.A. in Economics. Relevant courses include, but are not limited to, ECON 3EE3 , 3G03 , 4AA3 , 4FF3 , 4G03 , 4T03 , and 4TT3 .
M.A. in Economics Degree Requirements
- The degree requirements for the graduate part of the integrated program are identical to those of the M.A. in Economics program.
