The Concurrent Certificate in History Education is designed to provide undergraduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to engage in education careers, broadly defined (e.g., curriculum and resource development, working with children and youth, public programming). Courses attached to this certificate give students a grounding in both the history of education (i.e., informal and formal systems of learning over time) and the practice of teaching history (i.e., how we teach and learn about the past in various forums). Depending on the courses chosen, students will learn about education systems over time, the history of child and youth, past injustices, historical thinking
concepts, and best practices in teaching about the past. Students will have the opportunity to apply their learning in an informal or formal educational setting. The certificate will be useful for students aiming to work with children and youth or in curriculum or program development, to apply for a teaching or social work degree, or to apply for graduate work in areas like public history or public policy related to children and youth.

Certificate Notes
