This course will examine the field of health policy analysis for managers with particular emphasis on clinical, administrative and government policies to assist them in understanding the broader policy context of their organizations and implications for health management decision-making. After establishing a framework by which to analyze policy - which will include consideration of stakeholders, interest groups, values, institutions, and the media - various tools will be studied as means of formulating and evaluating policy. Analytical approaches from business, political science, economics, sociology, epidemiology, and history will be used. Current public policy and health management priorities in Canada will be examined.
