CMST 3WC3 - World Cinemas: Critical Media Approaches 3 unit(s)
This course takes a critical media studies approach to world cinema as a concept, critical media category, aesthetics, technology, and discursive repertoire of diverse global traditions. Categories like ‘transnational-‘, ‘hybrid-‘, ‘third-‘, and ‘accented’ cinema will be explored. Understanding cinema as part of a multinational system of communications networks, international co-productions, and festival distribution, the course integrates broader topics of colonialism, globalisation, diaspora, cinematic style, genre, visual culture and industry. Three hours; one term Prerequisite(s): Registration in Level III or above of a program in Communication Studies, Multimedia, Media Arts, Theatre & Film, Peace Studies or Global Peace and Social Justice
