Honours Sociology (B.A.)

Requirements for Students Entering the Honours Sociology (B.A.) in September 2017


Admission


Completion of any Level I program with a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0, including a grade of at least C in  or SOCIOL 1A06 A/B. For continuation in the program, see the section on in the Faculty of Social Sciences Academic Regulations.

Notes


  1. Students interested in graduate studies in sociology are advised to consider .
  2. Students enrolled in Level II of the Honours Sociology (B.A.) in 2016-17 may request to transfer to the .
  3. Students must normally complete ,  and  before entering Level III courses.
  4. Students must normally complete  before entering Level IV courses.
  5. Students must take a maximum of 12 units of Level IV Sociology. Additional units of Level IV Sociology cannot be used towards degree requirements.
  6. Students will be given priority enrolment in  and all other Level IV lecture courses.
  7. Students may take a maximum of 3 units of Level IV independent research ( or ).
  8. Students may take a maximum of 9 combined units of  and  depending on the topic.
  9. Students should check both this Calendar and the Departmental website for prerequisites and course descriptions.

Requirements


120 units total (Levels I to IV), of which 48 units may be Level I

30 units


from

  • the Level I program completed prior to admission to the program
    (See Admission above)

6 units


from

  • Level IV Sociology lecture course list
    (See Note 5 above - Additional units of Level IV Sociology will not count towards the degree)

3 units


from

  • Level IV Sociology lecture, seminar, or directed research course lists

18 units


  • Levels II or III Sociology of which a maximum of 12 units may be Level II.

48 units


  • Electives, of which no more than 12 units can be from Sociology (the maximum Sociology courses to be taken is 54 units).

Admission

  1. Students enrolled in Level II of the Honours Sociology (B.A.) in 2016-17 may request to transfer to the Honours Sociology (Specialist Option) (B.A.).
  2. Students must normally complete SOCIOL 2S06 A/B (or  and ) and  before entering Level III courses.
  3. Students must normally complete 3 units of  or  before entering Level IV courses.
  4. Students must normally complete  (or ) and 3 units of  or  before entering Level IV courses.
  5. Students must take a maximum of 9 units of Level IV Sociology.
  6. Students may take a maximum of six units of Level IV independent research (,  or ).
  7. Students may take a maximum of nine combined units of  and , depending on the topic.
  8. Students who previously completed SOCIOL 3PP3 may substitute this course for  or  to satisfy the advanced theory requirement.
