Department Notes
- Students who have taken Grade 12 French U or the equivalent within the last three years must register in FRENCH 1A06 A/B . Those who took Grade 12 French U or the equivalent more than 3 years ago should speak to a departmental counsellor if they feel their French skills may be below the level required for entry into FRENCH 1A06 A/B .
- FRENCH 2Z06 A/B is intended for students who have completed Grade 11 French U. By taking this course, students may enter FRENCH 2M06 A/B which is the prerequisite for upper-level French courses. A placement test online may assist students who feel their level of proficiency in French is at a higher level than assigned.
- FRENCH 1Z06 A/B is intended for absolute beginners or for those who have studied no further than Grade 9 or 10 French U. The normal sequel to this course is FRENCH 2Z06 A/B , followed by FRENCH 2M06 A/B which is the prerequisite for upper-level French courses.
- Language courses taught in the Department of French adhere to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which focuses on oral and written comprehension and production through task-based learning.
