REHAB 774 / Exploring Research Methods

This course provides practitioners with an introduction to research methods commonly used in rehabilitation practice. It is intended to prepare learners to understand the foundations of clinical research, engage in critical evaluation of research, explore opportunities for research in their clinical practice, and enhance their skills as research collaborators. The course emphasizes the development of knowledge related to: (1) major research paradigms in rehabilitation science; (2) the formulation of research questions and use of particular approaches/ designs; (3) major qualitative research approaches (phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography) and their corresponding methods, including individual interviews, focus groups, and participant observation; and (4) major quantitative research design (observational/descriptive, quasi-experimental, and experimental), their corresponding methods, and major research design issues (sampling, measurement, hypothesis testing and making inferences).
